Marc FellhauerIt’s election day, so ML and political commentator Michael Griffie make some bold predictions for you to evaluate long after the dust settles. Then Shawn makes the scene and he and Marc discuss how a potential tragedy at the Lions game brought both sides together.
STRAIGHT DOPE
ML sees gas for less than $4 a gallon on his way to the studio and wonders whether Iran is doing it to another American president: They released the hostages too late to help President Carter, and now gas is dropping too late to help President Trump.
Former congressional candidate and occasional Detroit Free Press opinion columnist Michael Griffie says he’s 0-for-3 on major political predictions, but nevertheless says he believes Democrat Abdul El-Sayed will lose to Republican Mike Rogers in the race to replace retiring U.S. Sen. Gary Peters. He explains why.
ML’s big prediction is that, whoever wins, Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield will be a big loser. Listen and learn his logic.
Get the bell ready! ML looks back on how Kwame Kilpatrick almost destroyed Jennifer Granholm’s gubernatorial hopes — and probably helped Mike Cox get elected Attorney General.
Marc also thinks El-Sayed will lose, but not because Democratic U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens abandoned him over the weekend and endorsed Rogers. He explains.
Has anyone seen Mike Duggan? The crew discusses where the one-time independent candidate for governor has been since he dropped out — and whether he could have helped pick the winner in the U.S. Senate race.
ML makes a second bold prediction about voter turnout, speculating that more Michiganders will cast ballots this year than in 2024, a presidential election year, when turnout is typically higher.
Journalism is the cure for politicians who bend the truth. But is the cure for a bent carrot worse than the affliction?
Get Shawn’s take on how Jack Campbell’s injury also showed the human side of fierce combattants.
