Harry Houdini died in Detroit 100 years ago — or did he? Keith Matheny of the Free Press discusses his deep dive into the magnificent magician’s rise and death here on Halloween 1926. ML and Marc also welcome DCFC legend Stephen Carroll to discuss Le Rouge’s upcoming playoff game — and how you can get Stephen’s tickets to the match.

STRAIGHT DOPE

Harry Houdini did his last show in Detroit, just days before he died at Grace Hospital under mysterious circumstances. Keith Matheny of the Free Press dug through old newspapers and spoke to historians about Houdini’s rise and fall. Read all about it here.

Houdini was a poor runaway before he started doing magic, but became a star because of his ability to gain publicity by performing stunts like getting out of every pair of handcuffs the Detroit police could find! He also performed a famous feat on the Belle Isle bridge, though it wasn’t quite as harrowing as Hollywood made it out to be many years later.

A trick Houdini performed in Detroit helped rescue a European tour that started out disastrously. Keith reveals how Houdini got Scotland Yard to help him become one of the biggest attractions in London.

ML — of course — tries to make Houdini’s death all about him. Listen to hear how he performs this magical feat.

DCFC takes on Hartford Athletic on Friday, Oct. 30 at 8 p.m. Gates at Keyworth open early for wrestling, which ML says may (or may not) feature Marc and Shawn.

Retired DCFC captain Stephen Carroll gives his take on the first round playoff match and what Le Rouge has to do to advance.

Stephen reveals the identity of “The Mustache Man,” but you don’t have to know his name to win Stephen’s tickets to the match. They will go to the first listener to send an email to [email protected] asking for them.
